We are impatient people. Especially in our microwavable, fast internet, drive-thru world, we tend to groan when we have to wait for something we want. Why do we drive a few feet forward while the light is still red? Will we really arrive at our destination quicker by doing this? Probably not. We are not known to be people who patiently wait. This hurts us to the core. We either rush into relationships and careers or wait too long to start. We spend when we should save and save when we should spend. The question is, why do we keep making these same mistakes over and over again? The overarching answer is, we take matters into our own hands.
Many of us believe the lie that God is only involved in the big things in the lives of influential people–as if He does not have the time to get involved in which job we should choose, who we should date, and where we should move (if we should move at all). The truth is, God is very much interested in our day to day decisions, even if they seem so small to us. I would say, Eve’s decision to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree definitely left a mark on humanity. Moses’ pride and disobedience to God definitely changed how his future turned out. We are no exception. The Israelites would wait on God to move and give the green light. God would also give them the red light.
You might be waiting for God to answer a prayer you have been praying for a while. Maybe you are trying to figure out if now is the time to date or the time to focus on school, to move or stay, to spend or save. I encourage you to wait on God. Run to Him with your decisions and He will guide you. Sometimes it will be very clear, and other times it won’t. He may answer through the Bible and He might answer through a song or a sermon. Just wait for God to move. He knows what He’s doing.
“22 Whether it was two days, or a month, or a longer time, that the cloud continued over the tabernacle, abiding there, the people of Israel remained in camp and did not set out, but when it lifted they set out. 23 At the command of the Lord they camped, and at the command of the Lord they set out. They kept the charge of the Lord, at the command of the Lord by Moses.”Numbers 9:22-23
