Are you a Costco Member or a Church Member?

Are you a Costco Member or a Church Member?

Melinda and I love Costco! We buy our contact lenses from there, our dental insurance is from there, we get clothes, food, and other amazing items from Costco. Every time we come in we think, “I wonder what else Costco has to offer?”

Look at me, all happy with my new glasses from Costco.

Unfortunately, way too many people are entering churches asking the same question, “I wonder what else this church has to offer?” We have bought into the consumeristic mindset and have adopted it into the church.

This is seriously dangerous and is one of the causes of 100-200 churches closing every week.

How can we fix this? We must learn what it truly means to be a church member. Last Sunday, we started a new sermon series called “I Am a Church Member,” based on Thom Rainer’s book. You can pick one up here.

I am honored to have Pastor Norman Carlisle and Pastor Larry Humberd (two of our overseers) join me in preaching this sermon series.
